What kid does not like pizza, and what kid would not enjoy using toppings to decorate their own pizzas with funny faces? These mini pizzas make a great Halloween recipe for kids as they are easy, quick and allow room for creativity.
As is always the key to success when cooking with children, have all the toppings chopped and cheese grated beforehand.
You will need:
- Whole wheat English muffins
- Orange cheddar cheese
- Pizza sauce
- Chopped toppings (cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, purple onions--anything you can think of). Cutting out the centers of the cucumber slices make great sockets for sliced-carrot eyeballs.
- Pizza tray or cookie sheet
- Parchment paper
Steps for Making Mini Pumpkin Pizzas
- Lightly toast the English muffins.
- Have child spread on pizza sauce.
- Have child sprinkle on grated cheese.
- Have child arrange various toppings to make faces on pizzas and pumpkin stems or spider legs.
- Arrange pizzas on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet or pizza tray.
- Place tray with pizzas under the broiler until cheese has melted.
- Allow to cool and enjoy!
Candy Corn Popcorn Balls
Candy corn's unique appearance and history make it the perfect addition to fall recipes.
This Halloween recipe produces the most scrumptious and decadent of treats. The salty/sweet combination is always a hit. With some clear or Halloween cellophane, these candy corn popcorn balls look great wrapped and tied with some raffia or ribbon.
Of course, you can always substitute candy corn for another sweet treat like orange and black jelly beans or smarties.
For this recipe, you can have the kids measure out the popcorn and poor the candy corn into it, but this one is pretty messy for little ones. You can let them sample the goods afterwards. Once they taste them, they will forget all about not being able to get their hands dirty!
You will need:
- 1 300-gram bag of mini marshmallows
- 2 cups of candy corn
- 10 cups of popped popcorn
- 1/4 cup of margarine or butter
- 85 grams of unflavored gelatin
- Large microwaveable bowl
Steps for Making Candy Corn Popcorn Balls
- Mix margarine and marshmallows together in a large bowl and microwave on high for two minutes.
- Mix the gelatin in thoroughly with the marshmallow and margarine.
- In another large bowl, poor candy corn onto popped popcorn. Avoid shaking the bowl too much or the candy corn will sink to the bottom.
- Poor marshmallow, margarine and gelatin mix over popcorn and candy corn and combine.
- Have a large bowl of cold water ready and before rolling each ball, wet hands so the mix will not stick to your hands.
- Arrange into ball shapes by squeezing and shaping mixture in your hands
